Biography: Courtney Roberts

Courtney Roberts is a graduate of the University of Virginia (BA History, English minor) and Virginia Commonwealth University (BS Social Studies Education), and she has worked extensively with high school students--both inside and outside of the classroom.

Courtney taught high school in Hanover County from 1992-2000. Her classroom experience included a range of history and government classes (including U. S. history, Advanced World History, AP European History and Advanced Government). In addition, she coached debate teams and sponsored the Model United Nations Society.

Courtney has taught PSAT, SAT and ACT classes through CSS Tutoring of Midlothian since 2005. Her experience also included extensive one-on-one tutoring with individual students.

By founding Education Matters, Courtney extends the services she can offer high school students by adding college planning and counseling services. She attended the Independent Educational Consultants Association Summer Institute in 2006 and Potomac-Chesapeake Association of College Admissions Counselor's annual conference in 2008. She plans to also attend PCACAC's Summer Institute in July of 2008.

Attending these workshops and conferences allows Courtney to communicate directly with college admissions officials and school representatives to stay abreast of the types of students they are interested in having apply to their schools. It also allows her to receive the most current information regarding admission procedures, testing trends and specialized programs offered by a wide variety of schools.

The mission of Education Matters is to provide the highest quality of individual and small group service to high school students and their parents. Education Matters continues to research and analyze trends and resources--both for test preparation and college planning.
